Prior to leaving for Garden City, we visited a short time with Melanie & Sharon...
Mel smiling again. She has a beautiful smile
Shaun & Bob just prior to heading out.
Another of Shaun & Bob..
Had to take this pic of Bobs instrument panel on his Honda 1300 VTX..Sharp bike!!!
Sharon had gone to do some errands & as we left, we crossed paths with her as she turned the corner..Here is Bob talking with her...
When we got to the old neighborhood, I took this shot of the street signs on the South end of the street. We lived on Cardwell in Garden City Michigan
This is the house I grew up in..972 Cardwell. The garage is an add on by the new people. We just had a backyard. We use to flood it in the winter so it would freeze so we could skate & play hockey. We played everywhere there was ice: backyards, streets, ponds & rinks.
At the North end of the street was Marquette..Had to get a pic of that sign too.
A view of Cardwell to the South from Marquette
Another view to the South..We lived there in the days when you could go places & leave the doors open or unlocked..Now it is a Neighborhood Watch Zone.
This is the field on the North side of Marquette that we played in..It also had a creek (still there) that we would catch frogs, crayfish & snakes in.
The sign out front of Garden City High School..When I attended, there were 2 high schools in Garden City, Garden City East High (my school) and the rival school, Garden City West High. Now there is just one, Garden City High.
A view of the school to the South
A view of what use to be the swimming pool.
Last but not least, the Catholic Church & Catholic school we attended. We went to Catechism classes every Saturday at St. Dunstan Catholic School. Yes, it was taught by nuns who wore the old black/white habits back then.
St. Dunstan Catholic Church..(the c is missing)
This is the Church we attended until I left for the USAF in 1970. This parking lot is where we all used to ride go-carts and cut our teeth on two wheelers, the old mini-bikes. Ahh, the days of our youth....
That's it for this post....Scroll down for more of the Michigan Trip 08......John
